The ‘Football League’ Tournament 2024 – Season 3
How did the season go?
Well folks, the season is finally over - 26 weeks of battling it out, on 13 different courses!
The season produced its fair share of ‘shocks’, but I am pleased to report that it was played in a friendly and respectful manner!
There was cause, however, for ‘VAR’ to issue one ‘red’ card and a handful of ‘yellow’ cards, during the season.

The infamous WGT ERROR CODE 1075 nearly wrecked this tournament, but thanks to some ‘quick thinking’ by Sue (The Boss), the problem was overcome, and she ensured any affected teams were given the opportunity to play in ALL ROUNDS (well done Sue!!).

Luton Town were quick to stamp their authority on the season and at the halfway stage, were the only team with a 100% undefeated record.
By week 12, they had a 9-point lead and were clear favourites to win the title!
From week 3, Luton Town, Cardiff City, Leeds United and Liverpool were never out of the top 4 (apart from week 21, which saw Crystal Palace steal 4th spot for1 week from Liverpool!).
We started to see Cardiff City make their move from week 13 after some ‘consistency issues’ during the first half of the season. With a few ‘extra training sessions’ they were able to return to form and moved back into contention for the title!
Luton Town started to ‘wobble’, losing two games in a row and they saw their commanding lead cut to just 3 points and the end of week 14!
At this stage of the season, it looked like Leeds United and Liverpool would be battling it out for 3rd spot!
Weeks 17 and 18 saw Luton Town encounter their 2nd ‘wobble’ and they lost in both weeks (to Stevenage Borough and Crystal Palace!).
With Cardiff City now in full flow, they took over the top spot, 3 points clear!
In week 21, Cardiff City suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Stevenage Borough, whilst Luton Town won against West Ham United – this drew Luton Town level on points with Cardiff City at the top of the table – separated only by goal difference!
Week 22 saw Luton Town drop 3 points – losing to Manchester United. Cardiff City held their nerve and beat Manchester City, moving 3 points clear once again!
After the results for the penultimate week were in, Cardiff City and Luton Town were still separated by only 3 points!
Leeds United and Liverpool were separated by only 1 point (for 3rd and 4th place).

It all came down to the final week!
Cardiff City had to play Luton Town and just needed to avoid losing to claim the title!
Liverpool needed to win and for Leeds United to draw or lose their final game, to claim 3rd spot.

3RD spot went to Leeds United – they won their final match against Leicester City. The pressure proved too much for Liverpool and they suffered a shock defeat to Tottenham Hotspur!

In the ‘Clash Of The Titans’, Cardiff City overcame their rivals, Luton Town,
and became
THE CHAMPIONS!

And there you have it… A summary of the season…
I have tried to ‘capture’ the season in words. I hope I didn’t send too many of you to sleep though lol.
