Example

The hole is 150 yards

with a drop in elevation of 30 feet

3 goes into 30 = 10

Subtract 10 from 150 = 140

 

Example

The hole is 175 yards

with a rise in elevation of 21 feet

3 goes into 21 = 7

Add 7 to 175 =182
